I've been part of BET for many years, starting as a pupil at Epsom and Ewell High School and now as Head of Department at the same school in just nine years.
After graduating from Epsom and Ewell, I studied Physics with Mathematics at Durham University's St John’s College, followed by a part-time Masters in Education (while teaching), to delve deeper into educational strategies and theory.
As an Early Career Teacher ('ECT'), I quickly moved into a leadership role, becoming Head of Year 9 directly after my ECT year. My focus has always been on expanding pupils' horizons, so with this in mind, I have always fostered a supportive and inclusive learning environment, helping pupils to make academic and personal progress - something I have found demanding yet incredibly rewarding.
In 2022, as a member of staff at Epsom and Ewell, I was able to take part in a teacher exchange program in Finland, an experience which broadened my perspective and improved my teaching practices by deepening my understanding of effective teaching methodologies.
In my upcoming role as Head of Mathematics, starting in September, I'll combine subject expertise, pedagogical knowledge, and a passion for engaging learning experiences to inspire pupils and collaborate with fellow educators. I believe in direct instruction, mixed attainment setting, and positive behaviour management.
My journey from pupil to Head of Department has been fuelled by seizing the many opportunities offered as well as always being keen to develop new skills and make a positive impact on our young learners. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have been given and very much look forward to the future.
