Our ECT programme

What a BET ECT can expect:

  • You are never alone - As an ECT you are paired with a mentor (relevant you your subject/phase) who you will meet with weekly
  • You will be enroled with a highly respected teaching school -  Upon joining us you will be enroled with our chosen teaching school to complete your 2-year ECT training/programme of study. To reduce workload all CPD is evidence-based and training is provided via an online platform and supported by your home school
  • You will become a part of a network of peers - As an ECT you are placed into a hub which means you get to meet with other ECTs. This is a great chance to network with other colleagues across the Trust and other schools in the local area
  • Training is bespoke - one size does not fit all - Training is bespoke to the areas of teaching practice that you are focusing on in your classroom – it’s all evidence-based too!
  • We value our people - We will always continue to network, collaborate and share best practice with you! As a second year ECT you will work within your specialist area or year group (with a lead) – this allows you to network with other teachers, collaborate, share best practice and develop your pedagogy
  • Our people are the key to our success – we believe in creating great places to work where you will feel supported and encouraged to achieve your ambitions.

At the heart of our commitment to early career teachers is a comprehensive, supportive mentorship programme designed to encourage professional growth and confidence. Each new teacher will be paired with a dedicated mentor who will meet regularly - either weekly or fortnightly - to provide targeted support and guidance. These structured mentor meetings create a safe, collaborative space to explore teaching strengths and strategically identify areas for development. Our mentorship approach goes beyond traditional supervision, with support provided both in and out of the classroom, ensuring a holistic development experience.

Our mentorship model is further enhanced by a multi-layered support system - early career teachers will receive direct guidance from their head of department and subject specialist teaching staff, creating a rich professional network of support.

CPD & PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
Professional growth is at the core of our philosophy and our CPD programme reflects this commitment. Every staff member, including our early career teachers, benefits from weekly, bespoke professional learning opportunities, carefully designed to support development.

These tailored sessions are not just additional training, but a structured pathway to excellence, ensuring that all colleagues - from newly qualified to experienced - have ongoing access to high-quality and relevant experiences.

In addition, our approach actively encourages and supports staff to pursue nationally recognised qualifications and advanced training programmes, creating a culture of continuous learning, innovation and personal growth that directly translates into outstanding educational experiences for our pupils.
