Tijhs Jordan

Headteacher
Marnel Junior School

My journey to headship has been an adventure, it has caused me to learn, think and evaluate myself time and time again.

From my first experiences of working in a school as a midday-supervisor and then a teaching assistant, I started to develop the skills which I call on to this day to be able to perform at my best. Working with children was always important to me and building relationships is still paramount.

Whether it was working in the primary age groups or secondary when I was a cover supervisor, I was always willing to take the opportunities afforded to me and put in the effort to excel. The many roles I held before qualifying as a teacher ensure that I recognise and value all roles within the school environment. This has led me to surround myself with people who challenge my thinking and force me to always keep my standards high.

Being a black leader was always the goal, as I grew up not seeing people who looked like me excelling in the roles I found myself in. I knew that if I could inspire and support children from a range of backgrounds, I would feel like I was always winning. In addition to this, supporting staff to be the best versions of themselves fills me with pride and a drive to continue. I have found that having a culture difference to what I was used to seeing in leadership brought about a different perspective which has been welcomed by children, staff, local authorities and academies.

I am committed to continuing the development of Marnel Junior School - my first headship. My values and beliefs are easy to see in the school and in the children.

Finally, I look forward to the many challenges and learning experiences which will come my way throughout my own journey.
