Since qualifying as a teacher in 2006, my journey has taken me to various schools and locations, shaping my perspective on education.
Initially, I trained and taught in Devon before travelling around Asia and Oceania. During my travels, I had the privilege of collaborating with local charities in Cambodia, where I eventually took the role of class teacher in a British International School.
In 2012, I returned to England to join Sythwood Primary School. Over the course of 11 years at Sythwood, I had the opportunity to contribute to the school community in various capacities, including two periods as acting head. These experiences have undoubtedly influenced my approach to educational leadership.
At the core of my educational philosophy is the belief that every child, regardless of their background or ability, deserves the best possible education - an education where they not only learn but also feel a sense of belonging, love, and inspiration to succeed.
I firmly believe that an inclusive community is the bedrock upon which transformative education is built. Inclusivity means recognising and valuing the unique contributions of every pupil, staff member and family within the school community; creating an environment where diversity is celebrated, and differences are seen as strengths. Through inclusive leadership, I have strived to ensure that all voices are heard, all perspectives are respected and all barriers to learning are dismantled.
From September, I am honored to take on the role of headteacher at Auriol Junior School, another school within the Trust. For me, there was no question about seeking opportunities outside of BET. Its unwavering commitment to the children and communities it serves and the level of support and trust I've experienced within BET has been instrumental in shaping me as a leader today.
BET is a forward-thinking, aspirational organisation, and I am genuinely excited about the possibilities that lie ahead as we work together to remove barriers and further enrich the educational experiences and outcomes of our children.
