BET Reads on World Book Day

7 March

Our BET Reads strategy is a shared vision for reading across all schools; a set of common principles, understood by all but implemented with the needs and context of individual schools in mind.

Through this shared vision and a common approach, we aim to ensure there is no lottery in terms of exposure and quality of reading provision and as a result all BET pupils leave our schools as readers for life.

We have a five-pronged approach to reading which includes: strategic ownership and responsibility for reading at all levels; a shared vision for a reading culture; collaborative working across all our schools; high quality resource development and effective assessment and early intervention.

World Book Day is the ideal opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work being seen across all Trust schools to engage our pupils with a love of books and reading, At the heart of the BET Reads Strategy is the aim that all pupils learn to love books, through celebrating and promoting reading for pleasure. Today we have welcomed visiting authors, swapped pre-loved books for new ones, dressed up as our favourite characters and immersed ourselves throughout the day with books and reading.

Clare Goldsmith, BET Executive Leader, said: "I am extremely proud of the expertise and shared vision across all our schools in ensuring our pupils become readers for life. Days like World Book Day shine a spotlight on the creative and inspiring ways our schools engage with reading...but we know that this is not a one off for BET schools and that the passion and focus around reading is ongoing."
